I downloaded the UBCD iso file from here , copied it onto a flash drive (the only file there), plugged it in to my infected PC, changed the BIOS to boot from the flash drive first, but I'm still getting the spade and the blinking cursor. What am I doing wrong here? EDIT: I also tried extracting all... |

@Ivo Put up a disclaimer on the top of the forum and main website about it. Even better, write a full "press release". Tomorrow people will be talking about it like it was your fault, and not Fosshub's (assuming your password there wasn't letmein >.>). |

You need to run TestDisk from one of these LiveCD distributions: http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Livecd Either run it from a CD/DVD or a USB Flash Drive. Thank you SO much for the response. I just typed "Command Prompt", and this option indeed appears. But I was trying it only with the "cmd" keyword, and nothing happens when I right-click on it (likely because it's the result for the program itself, not a shortcut). I can try to get used to typing "prompt"... |

Something useful that the Windows 8.1 search pane added was the option to run the Windows Command Prompt (cmd.exe) as an administrator by right-clicking on it on the search results. Can you add it to Classic Shell too? |
