It is with sadness that I announce that I moved from Classic Shell to a commercial application called Start8 . I could not stand the crashes anymore. I wish the development team all the best, and keep the good work. It was obvious for me that Classic Shell had timing issues. I know how hard it must ... |

I am going to try to turn off a few things like Metro apps display switch and something else here. Looks to me that Shell is choking when it tries to load up something on its own. |

Wouldn't there be a trick to prevent Windows from loading all startup items on boot. In Windows 98 it used to be SHIFT key, from POST to desktop load. All items would be ignored. Isn't there something like that for Windows 8 or 8.1 ? |

Jayletto.... it's like this when you clean install W8.1 As you get to add more startup programs, like Kx Mixer, nvidia drivers, printer drivers, what have you, you may experience trouble if you try to click on start menu. The thing is to determine which are the things that need to be loaded BEFORE c... |

I am able to get crash reports, but not Explorer.exe`s... If he isn`t able to do this, then it is the same thing we`re experiencing... A timing issue. |

Hi Ivo It seems that when I log off and log on again, when I log on, the problem doesn't happen. I log in with password, I don't let it automatically log on. I believe it is really a timing issue. When I reboot, it will crash, even if I wait for everything to load up (perhaps Shell is loading before... |

Yes, a simple log off will do it - to fix it. To trigger the issue, I don't know... Try logging off first. Are you on a server? |

Ivo,
Can you please test if Sticky Notes affect Classic Shell startup? Create a sticky and then reboot and when the taskbar loads try to click start button... I just disabled a sticky note, logged off and didn't have any problems THIS time (was having every time). |

I believe the crash is related with two things: - Icons being loaded on notification area, or apps being loaded there along with classic shell. - Application icons figuring in taskbar, for example: When I tell to uTorrent to load up with Windows, it definitely halts Classic Shell from operating, aft... |

What I am failing to understand is why I am not getting a dump, even though the taskbar crashes. It doesn't get dumped where it is told to. |

Well, actually, the file-copy feature is a must... never seen something so cool. Will work out a bit more on this issue. |

Well, I have looked into the CrashDumps folder today and to my surprise, it is issuing dumps. I've 2 application dumps here but no explorer on sight. |

I have updated to 4.0.4 and still get the behaviour. Basically it's explorer.exe crashing. There are no ClassicShell reports in crash. |

Yes, the folder is created. The event viewer is logging the errors. Yesterday, Explorer crashed like twice in a row. From event logger: First crash: - System - Provider [ Name] Application Hang - EventID 1002 [ Qualifiers] 0 Level 2 Task 101 Keywords 0x80000000000000 - TimeCreated [ SystemTime] 2014... |

Seems to me that the second method may strike some luck. I will be watching the dumps and post here. Thanks again! |

My classic shell keeps halting. I suspect it could have anything to do with "going straight to desktop" before the standard start screen finishes loading up. This is how it halts... anyone experiencing the same thing?
Check image attached. |

Hi folks. Firstly let me thank you for this application, that is indeed of tremendous help and deployment of systems. I got an issue with Classic Shell. It seems that every now and then, something like 6 out of 10 boots, explorer will crash after I click the start button for the first time. It kind ... |
