If your talking about in explorer, you can add a new toolbar item to classic shell toolbar with the command "hidden_files"
The start menu doesn't have such a feature, and is not meant as a full fledged file browser. |

links are just fine, as long as they pertain to classic shell in some way.. (IE requesting something that looks like something) The only thing we really block is intentional spam (which is usually like 20 links in a single post whose body does not even form a coherent paragraph) |

Nope, sadly Microsoft removed the bits of code used by classic shell to make that happen. and re-coding it would be a lengthy feat |

When simply renaming the .skin to .skin7 there are still tons of missing resources that would need to be added. It's much easier to go in reverse. Also moved to the correct subforum. |

Just a headsup my point wasnt to switch to XP, it was simply that xp is still fairly supported... something that should be true of windows 8.1 for years after its 'end' (even after 2023) the only issue is security... but who knows.. maybe by then windows 10 becomes a decent Operating system, or they... |

and all of that stuff has versions that run on windows 8 even in 10 years.. even if the new versions of that software doesn't, the old ones still will. also of that list you mentioned.. I doubt any of them would run on react OS either... |

most software still runs on windows XP.. exceptions being things that hook into the system... or require something like DX11 or later... you can still install 90% of steam games on an xp machine, and probably 80% of regular software too... |

there is no date the OS will simply refuse to boot... so you could use 8.1 indefinitely . You would just need to torrent a copy of the latest service-pack if you needed to reinstall, once microsoft stops sharing the files |

reactOS (atleast as of 6 months ago) was so damn unstable, that I would rather stick with XP :P but maybe by the time windows 8.1 looses software support in 2-3 years... who knows :P What Id like to see is a true binary fusion of the 2, but that would require you purchase the windows version they de... |

Yea, 99% of what's deleted is clear and cut spam :P I don't think I've had to delete any non-spam post either.. we have even had a few 'threats' after that cult of peggle incident.. however you have to understand that people are usually just frustrated.. and IMO have a right to voice that frustratio... |

The spam post are pretty obvious.. It will be a poste with 1-5 post under his belt, and include links, and random keywords that trigger search indexing.. Since windows 8-10 dont actually use that list of shortcuts(except with classic shell), its likely that a cleaner deleted them; you can check the app to see if it has an 'undo' function, or try system restore. Alternatively, you can re-build the folder manually (which I would recommend over a system... |

There is a reason I compiled all the skins (atleast from the .skins forum posted prior to june 1st.) :P (I'll probably update this file soon enough) as IMO that's the primary thing people are after when looking in the skins directory (aside from specific queries, that usually run through the search)... |

You might be able to duplicate it using a pattern... (atleast with specific font/dpi/icon sizes) also you need to limit column width to a specific value |

emblems aren't the 'only solution' you could just as easily create them on the far right side of the main bitmap, if you slice it up correctly ;P though neither of them provide anything to click on... they are just easier than that |

emblems are just a 'patch' not a real solution. and they never will be directly for the end-user... They would be good for something like custom shutdown buttons, or whatnot, or really advanced skins modeled in a similar fashion as Microsoft's BOB. I know you can do this with http://www.displayfusion.com/?refid=373553 it has a function 'Prevent Window Deactivation' that you can assign to a hotkey or trigger for a specific program however its only a free trial (but if you have multiple monitors, I would highly recommend the program for its many... |

Yes adding complex features would be harder to incorporate than to fork into their own 'style' but because of customizability it would be better. and in the long run (with more features added) it would take longer. look at new features since the 4.0 series.. most of them aren't related to the start ... |

adding features allow you to further customize a menu to your needs. adding a new style (aside from being considerable work) locks you down with a specific feature-set and limited customization. the user picture can have a link to any app correct? you can place the user picture anywhere, or any size you want correct? so you could make the user picture 1 pixel, and the picture frame to look like a shutdown button.. with a link to the shutdown dialog...
