I believe you can add this back in via the sounds control panel applet. |

Ivo, Just upgraded Server 2016 TP4 to TP5 14291 and have CSM running on it. On this build clicking "Start Menu (Windows)" does nothing; worked fine in the last one. Did also do an uninstall\install but same result. Pete |

Using the extractxx parameters results in ClassicShellSetup32_4_2_0.msi rather than ClassicShellSetup32_4_2_1.msi (same for x64). Also running the extracted msi files with 4.2.0 installed results in a repair\remove request rather than option to install\upgrade.

The settings were preserved i.e. the custom button path etc. but the "Replace Start Button" wasn't checked on upgrade. Could it be because this is build 9431 not RTM? Pete |

Ivo, First thanks for the RC! I am running 8.1 enterprise with 3.9.3 installed and have a custom start button defined. When I upgrade to 3.9.5 the Start Button is not enabled. Is it possible to do some check for this so that with upgrade the button is enabled if it is previously in use? Regards, Pete |

Evo, I will try and get more info. I know clicking on the desktop or clicking the desktop and pressing F5 doesn't fix it. I have not tried to click where icons should be. It is random so when I get next occurrence I will try more things. Pete |

I need to raise this issue again as I don't believe it has gone away. With 3.9.3 on a cluster of 3 Server 2012 machine a user can randomly end up with a blank desktop on logon with only the taskbar and CSM button visible. CSM is working. Uses have to go to the Start screen and click desktop to get t... |

Ivo, We have deployed 3.9.3 to a few hundred desktops and an RDP cluster. All users are running W8 on the desktop and WS2012 on RDS. We have roaming profiles enabled and redirect documents, pictures, favorites etc. AppData is local but obviously roaming is copied to the profile server on logoff. We ... |

Ivo, With 3.9.1 I have an issue when a user logs on to a RDS host session on WS2012 where the desktop goes completely blank. Only the taskbar and CSM is visible. Going to the start screen and back to desktop is only way to fix it. This doesn't seem to happen in 3.9.0 or your prerelease 3.9.2. Just t... |

We do the same thing as you want. There are various ways to do this depending upon your environment. If users have already logged on to the RDS server and have a profile the best way would be to create a registry collection in a GPO in Users preferences. To do this first setup Classic Shell the way ... |

I have seen this issue on different version of Windows; I am not sure on any connection to Classic Shell though. I have found that setting focus to the desktop and hitting F5 will always save the desktop icon positions. |

I don't think it is a problem. On another system I tested the same reg file settings and it worked fine. On this machine the system seemed to know to create the folder in the users local start menu - I didn't need to pre-create it. Maybe just a glitch on this build I am working on. |

Ivo, I have worked out what the problem is. If the folder %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools doesn't exist then CSM shows <No Text> in the menu. The link works correctly though to the system Admin Tools folder. If you create the folder log off an... |

Ivo, I have been setting up some customization for our users. It involves setting up the UI and then exporting the settings to a reg file and placing then into the default user ntuser.dat. This involves some reorganization of the menu like Documents, Favorites Music and Pictures in alphabetic order.... |

Ivo, I did some more testing and I tend to see this only since 3.6.6 on server 2012. Since these machines don't have local keyboards and mice all connections are over RDP. On some W8\Server 2012 OS's I have the same. This seems to be related to the new "Disable taskbar transparency" feature on the "Start Button" tab. Checking this box fixes the problem but you are force to no transparency on the taskbar. I only seem to get this to show up when I do... |
