Btw here's the CLSID for "My Network Places" (Network Explorer): shell:::{F02C1A0D-BE21-4350-88B0-7367FC96EF3C}. You can add a Custom Command as Ivo linked to above by going to Customize Start Menu tab, specify shell:::{F02C1A0D-BE21-4350-88B0-7367FC96EF3C} in the Link field.

Well, Classic Shell is about original functionality coded from scratch. It won't include registry tweaks which you can do yourself and whose behavior Microsoft can change in any version. That guy's tweak also involves patching system files, so no.

shellexecute and other executables just need to be in your system path. Are you linking to the batch file? You don't need the batch file at all. Just use the above command as the Start Menu command, just like you would use it from the Run dialog.
