More details will be better. What error does it give? Does the installation not complete? Or it completes but the menu doesn't start? Did you upgrade from an earlier version? Try downloading the installer again. If it's getting installed but the menu isn't starting, try starting it from C:\Program F... |

Classic Shell installs a service to skip the Start screen at startup but something on your PC is delaying the start of the service. Windows 8 delays all programs by startup by several seconds and then slowly loads them unlike Windows 7 which is why the service had to be created. Open registry editor... |

Looks like your Windows Installer is damaged. From an elevated (admin) command prompt, run: SFC /scannow and let it complete. Restart if it says so, then try running Classic Shell setup again. Check in Services.msc if Windows Installer service is running. |

Hmm okay , the Windows 7 Start Menu opens if one clicks to the right of the Classic button and there is no button text or if the size of the custom button is too small. The Metro button is large, how are you getting any empty space to its right and the first pinned icon? |

You can start Classic Start Menu from C:\Program Files\Classic Shell\ClassicStartMenu.exe. Doesn't starting that enable the Start button on your taskbar? If it does, then for some reason, ClassicStartMenu.exe is not automatically starting when you start Windows. Place it in your startup folder insid... |

Flickering in other desktop programs or in Classic Start Menu? Maybe your display drivers are causing it. If it's outside of the Start Menu, Classic Shell does nothing to it. |

Are you organizing/moving files from the network? Windows 7/8 still create the Thumbs.db file on network paths and it may be locking the folders. You can also use the free tool Unlocker to see what is locking the file but beware of forcibly unlocking it using Unlocker, that is not safe to do always. |
