That's a unique way to personalize a start menu,
by replacing the standard magnifier in search bitmap. 
Letters, glyphs, even simple 16x16/20x20 icon images could work. |

They take color away, and to my surprise, they put color back in,
like the old classic theme colors under High contrast settings.

I'm not sure what you mean exactly.
If you don't want the gradient on the selectors,
I faked the selector look from this 8.1 Win+X menu screenshot.
It should look the same, because both menus are off white.
If it's not what you want, someone else can try. |

That's the opposite in that picture. Blur must be around 25 radius.
Looks like Windows changed it to around 3 radius in CSM menu.
