Well, here is a nice button (attached to this post, right click -> Save image as to download it) where the Windows logo in it follows your Aero/Taskbar color with it. :D

The color it shows is the color that you set in Control Panel -> Personalization -> Color and Appearance.

If you want more, be sure to check out the Windows 8 /Windows 10 Themed Start button compilation which includes some great animated Start buttons.

The Windows 8 and Windows 10 logos are copyright and trademarks of Microsoft.

Thanks Gauravk.
Is the best one so far that I have tried.
Unifies nicely, with 8.1. Matches perfectly with 1920 x 1080

May I ask how it is done? It seems like it uses transparency.

It does use transparencies.., in the first state the background is transparent, while the foreground is white. In the other 2 states the background is black while the foreground is clear.

If your asking how to add transparency to an image?

In GIMP (free photoshop equivalent):

1. ensure the file is a .png or .bmp (jpegs are somewhat wonky when dealing with transparency, and animations), then open it with gimp
2. go to layer>transparency>Add alpha channel
3. then any part of the image you select and delete will be transparent
4. Also If you wish there is a 'color to alpha' option next to the add alpha channel option, which will convert a specific color into clear (This is generally used to make partially clear sections in an image)

I'll take a look later on.

Thanks worked great for me!

All you have to do is apply the image in the Custom Icon section under the Start button tab in Settings.

Yeah I know all this however, It did not follow my set colour and turned out looking more horrible then the original one.

Use large icons and button size: 0px for optimal.

this right here is the jam, smuckers. it brings the requisite style to go along with the sheer functionality of classic shell... it's understated and subtle.... mouseover gets it to fade to black which is the same color as when it has attention via a click or windows key. that's all we need.

i know other people dig the custom stuff with star trek logos and all that. god bless. and hell i cant lie i've tried to make a nice little aphex twin 7\ logo for my startbar but it never worked out quite right... not like this anyways.

so thank you for making this as you've helped to give me a stylish and functional desktop that keeps metro where it belongs: buried in the backgrund eating up proly 66% of my comptuer's resources for no damn good reason.

merci beaucoup! peace and love peace and love!!!! - ringo starr

There needs to be one of these for the Windows 10 Start button.

Although since that button changes colour to match the Start menu I'm pretty sure whoever made it would have to separately do one for each colour option and that sounds like way too much work.

Here is the FAKE Windows 8.1 start orb (is NOT copyright by Microsoft). We recommend DO NOT use this start orb for any Windows taskbar:
