On the AskWoody blog, it was suggested that Classic Shell could remedy the loss of Taskbar search in Win10 after disabling Cortana.

“The inability to disable Cortana and return to the basic search functionality rankles some.”
So I take that and your comment to mean that if one has disabled Cortana–it does not show up in my Task Manager–one has lost the basic Windows search functionality, e.g, there is no way to have one’s cake and eat it too?

So will Classic Shell work with Win 10 ver. 1607 and restore Taskbar search?
If so, does CS do anything else to the Win 10 GUI?

Thanks to the CS experts?

classic shell does nothing to enable/disable taskbar search. It replaces the start menu, and can have a search-box similar to that of windows 7 (in the windows 7 style) or windows XP(in the classic/classic with 2 column styles) This box can be selected by default when the windows key is pressed, so its effectively the same thing. (but you wont get a searchbox on the taskbar)
In addition classic shell can use 3rd party search programs like https://www.voidtools.com/ quite nicely (but with some settup)

Thanks for the quick reply. Perhaps I should have explained more precisely the problem.
I have restore Win 10 Search Box. But cannot type into it.
So I take it that CS does not fix or replace Win 10 Search if the latter is not working?

Correct, without cortana that search is non-functional and classic shell does nothing to aleviate that

If you wish to restore cortana: http://www.digitalcitizen.life/how-completely-reset-cortana-windows-10-pc-or-device

Classic Shell's search is superior to the Taskbar/Cortana search. It is more accurate at reliably finding your Start menu programs, apps, indexed files and Control Panel or PC Settings. But it does not search the web directly, you can set up a search provider to open your web browser which performs a web search.
