I try, in win 10 to uninstall 4.1.0 and get the specified account already exists error message. I tried to install 4.2.3 but it gives me the same error. I don't want to do a system restore because I have installed a great # of new programs and don't want to re-install all of them. I tried to delete all traces of classic shell, used reg cleaning on systemworks 16 from Norton and NOTHING works. Thanks kb7bth

What is the exact error message you are getting? A screenshot would be helpful.

It just comes up in a dialogue box. I have uploaded the clipboard file. I have since gone into regedit and deleted the classic bar items too. I just tried the uninstaller again and the specified account already exists, still pops up. I wish you had a "remove" option like they have with Norton. You can run their uninstaller tool and it wipes EVERYTHING, allowing a clean install. This window 10 is a lot different, and i'm still on the learning curve.

If you run the installer for the exact version you currently have installed, there should be a Remove option.

I have ran every install you have, and uninstall in the "uninstall programs and applications" and they ALL give me "the same account already exists" and WON'T then stops without doing ANYTHING. Do you have an uninstall program that I can use outside of the one in control panel? Thanks g

Searching online for the text "the same account already exists" yields no relevant results. Show me a screenshot of the error.

press the Print Screen button to copy the screen to the clipboard, then paste it in Paint, then save as JPG and then attach here.

Yes, there is. All versions of Windows have clipboard. What do you mean?

Then use Paint to crop only the window that has the error message (so that the message, the title, and any buttons within that window are visible). The image should be pretty small.

You resized the image, which made the text completely unreadable. If I have to guess, the message actually reads "The specified account already exists". Is that so?

Searching the Internet uncovered posts like this: https://support.enthought.com/hc/en-us/ ... dy-exists-
It suggests that the problem is most likely caused by corruption in the registry and recommends to download some utility from Microsoft.

I wouldn't usually recommend that people download and run utilities from the Internet, but in this case it is published by Microsoft so it should be safe.

I have ran Norton 16 registry scan, it shows as all errors fixed. I have ran sfc/scannow and shows no errors...

You may try the manual instructions I posted here: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4846
However they are very much untested and are by no means official documentation.
But if all else has failed, you can give it a go.

SUCCESS!!! I went to the regedit and started with the 1st line and searched 1st for classic, then line 2 then through the whole registry. Then I started at line 1 again and searched for classicstart and deleted all files and sub-files. re-ran regscan in Norton and repaired the items listed. rebooted and went to programs and features and classic shell was GONE. I then reinstalled 4.2.3 and it WORKED. Thanks..g
