Post subject:  Windows 7 Menu Question

Windows 7 supports an option for adding the Administrative tools to the pop-down start menu just above the Help and Support category. Is it possible for a user to add this item apart from recompiling your code? We use a lot of different tools/products in our development work, including these admin tools. The flat metro start page is a nightmare when you actually have to use many scores of different programs, batch files, etc. The whole OS has been designed for a shallow consumer use model. It adds more overhead in clicks and mouse movement to almost every development/work related task. Your Start Menu has removed a lot of this Metro pain.

Thanks for your contribution...

You can add any custom item to the Start Menu. Go to the Settings dialog and open the Customize Start Menu tab. Locate the "Custom Command" item at the bottom of the right column. Drag it to the left column and position it in the location you wish. This will create a new item named CustomItem. Double-click on the new item. Pick 'Administrative Tools' from the Link dropdown list, or click on the [...] button to select another folder. Change the label or the icon if you wish. Select "Don't Expand" if you wish the folder to not be expandable as a sub-menu.
