Just thinking.
Ms used to be the company that would give a customer umpteen different ways to do the same thing.
Then they started cutting it down to just a few ways.
These are good and bad points for any profit making company. I can't blame them too much.
They just cut a little too close to the bone. :x

I was looking through some of Ivo's colorful posts from years ago on sourceforge.
Seeing how CSM progressed into a professional piece of work.

For all the years of hard work, Ivo and his friends have put into the project,
MS should give them an award for making the most cutomizable menu out there,
giving back choices the customers wanted, that MS didn't think were needed at the time.
The downloads have proven that beyond a doubt.
Cheers.
Thanks for making it a good out of the installer box experience. :)

Nope. MS will never give an award, they are going towards mobile. Pretty much every Computer company are trying to slowly kill the PC.

Scary.
Just as every thing is getting portable and smaller, my eyes need to see bigger and bigger.

Well at least give Surfaces to the team.
If I recall, MS have given away 10 to 100 thousand away already to employees and at shows.

News headline:
Classicshell saves Windows 8, MS donates CSM team 1000 Surfaces, CSM gives away 10 to cult followers.
Yeah, give the odd one away to us, for the best skin or something.

What does the M stand for?

Classic Start menu
people tend to focus on that aspect of classic shell because it is by far the most developed

I see. But doesn't it make sense to call it by the project name. 'Classic Shell' ?

it does make a bit more sense in my opinion. however csm is shorter, and already being used, by at least a dozen people (cs is shorter yet, but potentially even more confusing, thankfully it hasn't been used)

Use whichever you prefer. :P, however as in this instance, choosing the abbreviation may lead to confusion and more time spent overall (even if its not by you)

I just want to say to Microsoft: Hey, look at Classic Start Menu - that is how the start menu should be!

with acronyms context is important.. on a gaming forum counter strike makes sense.. (if it could properly fill the blank)

on adobe's forum, it likely means photoshop cs..
and here, chances are most people would at least understand it to mean classic shell
For the longest time i thought IMHO was just an alternate form for LMAO..

Well, I'm pretty much happy with the Clasic Start Menu,(CSM).
It's higher than 99.99% acceptable. Very few bugs.
Time to donate some money for Ivo's gas tank and put some grub on his table.
The deed is done. It felt good.:D
Keep the new features coming.

I agree, CSM makes Win 8 much more usable. Especially since every time you open a desktop application, you go to the desktop UI anyway but it seems crippled. I don't care for most of the Metro apps myself and really only ever use two of them, the Weather one and the eBay one. I have my system boot to the Metro screen but usually quickly wind up on the desktop.

Thanks for the program and the effort put into it.

I'll join in. Thanks, Ivo, for Classic Shell.

On topic of improving Win8, apparently Acer is going to preinstall a start menu alternative in their computers: http://arstechnica.com/information-tech ... tall-apps/

As well as Lenovo with Pokki. It's kind of neat menu, but not for me.
The way I read it,
is the big companies donated/invested money into developement of Pokki for a reason.
To use that menu as a money making advertising machine.

Whereas with this shell menu, it is retro Windows menu with a number of new twists,
with no advertising. More workable.:)

I always come back to Classic Start Menu, higher Class, I guess. 8-)

I don't understand why you guys just don't use Windows 7. It is the best Windows OS. (IMO)

In my case, I got a really good deal on a copy of Win8 Pro ($32) and I used it to replace XP on this older laptop. I have a newer more powerful laptop with Win7 64 bit and I agree that it is great. The facts are, however, that Win8 actually is lighter and runs better than 7 on older machines. If I was running 7 on this machine, I would have no use for Classic Shell at all. The part I like the least about Win8 is the apps. I find almost all of them useless and in the case of the IE10 app version, downright horrible. To be honest, I have never been a big Start Menu user. I prefer to have icons on the desktop for my most used things and have over 30 of them on the other machine which I use for gaming and other heavier lifting things. I only use the Start Menu for utilities and to access my browsing favorites quickly without having to open the browser first. I don't even install the Classic Explorer or Classic IE parts of Classic Shell.

I use XP, Win7 and Win8.
In Xp, just old games now with a very chopped up menu.
Passed on Vista. At the time, could not get my head around that new menu.
Man is Vista a beautiful resource hog. Just fixing up one for relative.
Win7 menu was just starting to befriend me, and then Win8 came out.
I've gotta say all the menus and os have good and bad points.
In Win8, my Classic menu is mostly for app launching.
I do use start screen as well.
Win7 probably will go down in history as the most liked,
except for the missing up button, of course. :)

Up button? What do you mean?

The button in the top left corner of explorer that has an up arrow and takes you to the parent directory? It was in xp, but was missing in vista/7 Ms thought since breadcrumbs could be used in the same manner it was unneeded... but apparently for win 8 they changed their mind (classic shell also adds the up button to vista/7 for the user)
