Here is little Nyan Cat [Animated Start Button]

To get the sharp small pixels on the WIN 10 ones,
I used Neural Fractal Image Comparator technology. (my brain)

With the high vertical pixel count on the big & fast one, 19801 pixels,
poor little PixelFormer program conked out a couple times.

For the Win 10 ones, my preference is the transparent, set to 0 Button size.

The big ones will tend to get fuzzy when scaled.
Might be ok at 125 button size, if system is on HDPI 150 to 200 size.

If only pop tart pussy could have the theme song start on hover.
Would definitely add to the silliness of it all.

EDIT: Took the corny one that was made first, out of recycle bin, and added to zip.
Don't know, is it a cat, mouse, bat, or bunny?

I have a question (I'm new here)
I know that to make these animated buttons you need to have all frames in one picture, with the first row of pixels containing all the information Classic Shell needs. The only problem I'm having is putting all of my frames into a single image. How do you do it? What program? The only one I could use for this that I own is MS Paint, but isn't there something better?

Yeah, pretty much anything is better than MS Paint
I'd recommend paint.NET (which isn't a website, the .NET thing is relating to the .NET framework .-. ), though chances are someone else will probably recommend Pixelformer or whatever it was called. To quote...I think it was Guarav...:

Paint.NET is great for making a souffle, but Pixelformer is good enough if you just want to make toast.

I had downloaded a program that stacks the frames vertically into a single collage picture.
It was an animation frame editor. It looked good..
Was going to try it out fully on weekend.
Last night, for some unknown reason Win 10 decided to not boot and killed my drive trying to repair it.
Got it working again from an image from a year ago, but forgot about saving that program.
Now I don't remember what it was called. There are probably lots out there.
I didn't even know my old Adobe Elements could split a gif into layers until last week.
Probably can make a vertical filmstrip too, without the photo merge aspect.

Bet you p3y0t3 knows the best and easiest program.

TigerNightmare uses a morph function of the GAP plugin with GIMP.

Vertical frame compilers, they are probably right under our noses in image editor programs we use.

For me I did the cat one the hard way. :(
I put corner registraion marks for each frame for lining up the transparent frames, as layers.
Then merged into one png.

Getting back to you, on joiners.
If you have all the frames already and just want to join vertically, there are online/ offline free photo joiners that can do it.
The ones I tried, did not seem to save the transparency.
Some have limits to amount of frames. Make sure to set borders to 0.
The combined image would still have to be put in a good image editor to add the extra pixel line and saved as .png, or .bmp.

Still can't find the good one that got away. :(
Be funny if that was the one that killed my computer. Free download, free program with free virus added, no charge.

The ones below should be safe.

Here are a few that I have tried the last hour:

Okay thanks guys. It'll help me get started. Also, I'm sorry to you juniper7 for kind of stealing this thread with my question.

Correction: No monetary charge - you pay in damages to your computer .___________.

I tend to play it pretty safe for personal info files, or anything worth anything.
Put on other hard drives, that I only physically plug in when needed.

No money changed hands, just bit of a nuisance, that's all. :x
