I want to hide the shortcut underlines showing up in the classic task bar, and can't figure out how to do it. I know I did it once in an earlier install.
Unchecking the "Underline keyboard shortcuts and access keys" in the "Ease of Access Center" has no effect on the Classic Start menu underlines.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it does not answer my query. I just want to disable the display of the underlines, not the functionality of the keyboard shortcuts. Your suggestion totally nukes the shortcut keys. I just want to get rid of the underlines in the UI.

Windows does not allow that. If you uncheck "Underline keyboard shortcuts and access keys" and open the Start menu with the mouse or touch, it won't underline the keys yet the functionality will remain available. However, as soon as you press any key on the keyboard, the underlines are shown. There is no way to suppress them and still have keyboard accelerators working.
