Whether this setting is checked or not, my Explorer is always showing the icon of the currently selected item in the title bar and therefore on the task bar. The varying icons on the Task Bar make it VERY difficult to locate already open instances of Explorer. I've tried both settings for the checkbox and even restarted my computer between them, but v3_6_5 always behaves the same way. I'm running it under Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit version. I did not install any of the other class shell components. |

By default on Vista and Windows 7 when using the Aero or Basic theme, the text and icon are hidden in the title of the Explorer window (but never on the taskbar). In all other cases (when using Classic theme, or when running Windows 8), the title always shows the icon and text. The Classic Shell option forces the icon and text to be shown only in the first case - (Vista/Win7, non-classic theme). In all other cases it does nothing. There is no way to hide the title in Classic theme, or the taskbar. |

Thanks for the info. I do run Win7 with the Windows Classic theme, which matches your explanation. I guess I was hoping that ClassicShell could fix this broken Windows Explorer behavior, too. After all, the "wrong" icon (i.e. the icon for whatever is currently selected) is also used in the Alt+Tab pop-up and I often miss Windows Explorer in that list, too. Oh well, maybe some future version of ClassicShell (or Windows? Ha!) will fix this UI faux pas. Thanks again for the quick response and a cool utility! |
