I'm a very happy user of the classic shell. And even that I don't mind I just want to let the team know there seem to be some missing icons in the toolbar.

windows 8.1
classic shell 4.0.2

I can't access the picture you linked. But from you description, most likely you are using a command that doesn't have a built-in icon, like Undo or Select all. For such buttons you need to provide the icon yourself.

I had a little problem with the image, it seems to work now.

I'm just using the 'back' and 'forward' buttons (in Dutch 'terug' and 'voorwaarts') see both in the button list (empty page icon) and on the toolbar above that in teh windows explorer (broken images).

Right. Those don't have a built-in icon. Classic Shell doesn't have its own icons, but uses the ones from Windows. There are no icons in Windows for back/forward. You need to download icons from somewhere or make your own, and then add them to the toolbar.

I found some. :)

But when I try to select the image (in the menu-manager, right click the menu-item > edit) it will only let me select dll files.

I've also found this link http://www.glyfx.com/content/page/xp-common-complete-edition.html
but the download is a .exe file, while all I need is a dll file containing these images.

I just thought of unpacking the .exe with 7zip and now I got folders of sets of icons (ico, png, bmp), perfect.

But how to assign the button to an icon?

It's the other way around. You assign an icon to a button. Double-click on the button item in the settings. The either type the full path to the ico file, or click on the [...] button and browse to it.

@GauravK
Thank you.
Do you also have the greyed out version of the back and forward buttons?

The toolbar should automatically create a grayed out version from the regular icon. The option for providing a disabled icon is for cases when you don't like the generated icon.

Maybe your browser is terminating the download early or you are extracting to a location protected by UAC. Try opening WinRAR or 7-Zip as administrator and using a different browser. I also attached the same file here to this post. What is the error message exactly that you are getting?

I'm collecting all the software and apps I need to install Windows 7. I refuse to go without the classic start menu and Windows Classic Theme. I'll try your zip again but for whatever reason it wouldn't work for multiply times. I'm using WinRAR v5.01 which is the lastest version and I've clean installed it.

Those toolbar images are stored inside some XP DLL as images themselves, not as icons.

Try XP's shell32.dll. Bitmap resource 214 and 215 are the toolbar icons.

Then your shell32.dll is patched/modified by another skinning program. The original unmodified one has them.

You need to create icons out of the bitmaps. Ideally the icons will contain multiple sizes so the toolbar can pick the one that fits best.
