I don't know if this has anything to do with Classic Shell, but the taskbar has started freezing.

It freezes for about a minute and then restarts itself, but some of the program icons such as 'Ditto' and 'Winpatrol' don't appear, so I have to restart my laptop.
Unless there is a way of restarting the taskbar without restarting my laptop?

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Thanks

It means your Explorer.exe has started hanging or crashing. If you could capture a crash dump using the instructions in this post: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=6 it can be determined whether Classic Shell or some other app/shell extension is causing the crash.

I've downloaded ProcDump and it is running.
The problem is, is that I get the freeze when starting my laptop.
Once everything has loaded it will freeze.
How do I use ProcDump before the laptop has started fully?

What does: 'Press Ctrl-C to end monitoring without terminating the process.' mean?
Does it mean ProcDump will still be running when I restart my laptop?

I think I have solved the issue.

It was due to Window update 3033889.

There was a fix with Window update 3048778.

I will see how I get on tomorrow and let you know.

No I haven't solved it - it's still happening.

I will upload the crash dump as soon as possible.

For capturing dumps on startup, see the second post here: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=6

The crashes don't seem related to Classic Shell.
Two DLLs stand out - IObit Uninstaller\UninstallExplorer64.dll and System32\devrtl.dll.
My hunch is that the uninstaller DLL gets unloaded unexpectedly. Windows 8.1 is a bit more aggressive in unloading DLLs it thinks are not needed.

Try this:
Uninstall Classic Shell for a day and see if the crashes continue
Upgrade to the latest IObit Uninstaller or remove it temporarily

Thanks for your help.

I had recently installed IObit uninstaller.
I have uninstalled it and everything seems alright so far.
I had the latest version of IObit Uninstaller, how could it cause explorer.exe to crash?
Could Iobit Uninstaller have caused a problem with System32/devrtl.dll?

It just crashed again.
Could there be a problem with System32/devrtl.dll
Is there any way to check and fix it if there is a problem with it?

I don't know.
devrtl.dll seems related to devices. Maybe you have a faulty device or driver.
Uninstall Classic Shell and see if you keep getting crashes.

I have run sfc /scannow and it said there were no errors.

So I've run Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth anyway.

At the end it said that it had fixed curruption, so I don't know if there was a problem or not.

I've restarted and will have to see if it has corrected the problem.

I've been using my laptop for the last few hours and everything seems alright, so it looks like there was corruption which Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth fixed.
