For quite sometime I've had problems restarting Firefox. A restart can be done pressing the 'Restart Firefox' button on the Add-ons Manager screen. There are Add-ons (extensions) that also provide this function and the ones I tried all behave the same.

When I restart Fx it closes but does not reappear on screen even though the icon on the taskbar is active. I can make it appear in a few ways. Right-clicking on the desktop will bring it up and hovering over the Fx icon on the taskbar to name a couple. This behavior happens maybe 95% of the time. When I don't start up CS automatically Fx restarts work fine.

I am using Fx27 but I've had this problem going back at least to Fx26 if not Fx25. I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro x64 with all Windows Updates applied. I believe the problem first appeared in one of the CS 4 betas though I don't know which one. It might have even been the first one.

Any ideas on what's causing m problem and how to fix it?

Hm, looks like the latest official version of FF is 24. I do not see a "Restart Firefox" button there. It may be a new beta feature and they are still working out the kinks. You can report it to them as a bug. If this happens with a real release of FF I will take a look.

Ivo:

Here is an Add-on for a Restart button if you want to try things out. Remember to move it from the Customize Toolbar Menu to a Toolbar of yours.

But since the stable Firefox release is version 24. It can be a Firefox bug. :)

Think I might have found the fix to my problem. It appears to be a Registry entry as described here Tweak Library – Make the background window active. I set the value to zero and so far so good. Fingers crossed.
