I am running Word 2003 in Windows 7 with Classic Shell and want to customize my normal.dot. In the past I experienced little difficulty, but with Windows 7 and Classic Shell installed, I cannot even find this file on my PC! The folders where it might be are also inaccessible. Not sure whether this is a Windows 7 issue, a Classic Shell issue, or simply a configuration issue.
"The default settings are kept in a file called
Normal.dot for Office 2003 or
Normal.dotm for Office 2007 and up which is located in the C:\Documents and Settings\
username\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates folder"
However:
C://Documents and Settings will not open
Why?
A forum answer: "Documents and Settings is not a real folder in Windows 7. It is called a "Junction" and is there to allow older programs to inteface with the Windows 7 folder structure.
The data is now contained in C:\Users\<your user name>\. There are other Junctions as well."
OK fine, but there is no "Templates" folder in C:\Users\<your user name>\, and no templates folder or Normal.dot document shows up anywhere when searched for.
What to do?
