I don't know if this is a problem with the shell or the OS, but I use a solid black background. But when I open Windows Explorer or the start menu, the text and the lines are white, but the background is black. It kind of has a transparent look. I hate it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Can you show a screenshot of what you mean?

Looks like you have enabled the high-contrast setting in Windows. In that mode Classic Shell by default picks the Classic skin, which uses the system colors, black and white in your case. Go to the Skin tab in the settings and pick another skin.
