I've just successfully installed Classic Shell on a recently purchased laptop, running (I think) W8/64. A vast improvement. Thank you. However: altho' the Win key opens the Start Menu correctly, when clicking on the Classic Start button, the Menu flashes ON then OFF again. I checked the settings but can find no obvious omissions. Any ideas? Thank you

do u have a custom start menu button?, and if so, is it 3 equal square graphics on a single strip image 3 times longer than it is wide, with everything centered and occupying as much space as possible, in a 32-bit .PNG format?

The STart Button is "standard" Classic shell: Unfortunately, I don't have regular access to the laptop, so I can't answer Ivo's query.
