I've recommended Classic Shell but have to add a caution about Norton Internet Security flagging the download with its "catch-all" WS1.Reputation notice - (i.e., "We don't know what this is" - (since users aren't complaining) _ "and therefore we're deleting it from downloads"). I tell them to "click-on" the NIS warning and select "restore and exclude".

It is a false positive due to the improved compression algorithm Classic Shell 4.0's installer uses. Some AVs heuristics scanning gets fooled due to this and it incorrectly warns it as a threat. See http://www.classicshell.net/faq/#install_av

Norton sucks basically. And both Avast and MSE are better and free-er

Well we contacted Symantec and they are going to whitelist Classic Shell and remove it from the reputation based filtering when they update their virus definitions.

Probably because Norton updated their signatures to only include 4.0.4 as a safe download. It will happen every time a new Classic Shell version is released unless Norton fixes their product. You can turn it off if you want: http://www.ghacks.net/2012/06/25/how-to ... -1-system/

Ws reputation 1 are 100% false positive.
If you ever use Norton Power Eraser you'll learn the true nature of Norton Antivirus that
they are not detect virus name but they detect software reputation by user's vote.
So if any software that unwell known they'll flag as ws reputation 1.
If you use virustotal a lot you can tell that if only norton that detect is possible false postive.
I reccoemnd use any other antivirus but Norton. It won't be good if new release software
being flag ws repuation like these. It's pain in a neck for new software developers.
