I have had to reboot once, and the problem goes away for a while, but seems to come back.

I see the spinning circle, wait a while, give up, and when I come back (maybe a minute or two), no context menu.

I think this may be a new issue with 3.6.6

Windows 8, 64 bit, Dell XPS14

It is unlikely because Classic Shell doesn't touch the context menu.
Just in case, capture a crash dump as shown at the top of this page.

Thanks for the response.

I am surprised that classic shell doesn't touch the context menu, as there are configurations for the context menu in it's settings menu.

I don't think anything is actually crashing. The right click on the explorer window takes a long time to return. But it does return control after a minute or two.

I installed classic shell 4/7/13 and adobe photoshop elements 4/9/13. Not sure how adobe photoshop would be affecting this, but in between the time I rebooted the machine, and problem started happening most recently I do not believe I ran adobe photoshop.

The "context menu" settings in Classic Shell are when you right-click in the start menu or on the start button. It is not related to Explorer.

A dump is useful not only when there is a crash, but also when a program is slowing down. It can show what parts are being slow. Look at the instructions here: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=6

oh, ok -- thanks

I'll do that when I get a chance

But seems like this isn't the right forum for the crash dump :(

You can try attaching it here. If it's too big you have to find somewhere to upload it.
