OS: Windows Server 2012
Classic Explorer Version: 3.6.5

In "File Explorer" selecting a directory in the left-pane with a single-click does NOT display the items in that directory in the right-pane. I MUST double-click the directory on the left to reveal the items in the right-pane (double-click will select AND expand the directory in the left-pane, I frequently do NOT want to also expand the directory). This is particularily annoying, especially when selecting a directory with many sub-directories.

"Ummm... NO, I didn't need to see all the sub-directories on the left, just the directory contents on the right"

Verified settings:
- Folder Options > General tab > Click items as follows: Double-click to open an item (single-click to select).

Is this a new Windows "feature"? Or something not quite right in Classic Explorer?

Thanks!

Are you clicking on the arrow or on the folder name itself? Under any circumstances, when clicking a folder name itself in the left pane with the mouse, it should show normally in the right pane, irrespective of whether Classic Explorer component of Classic Shell is installed or not.

This problem happens when clicking either the folder icon or the adjacent directory name. The directory name will hi-light (as per normal), but the right pane does not show the contents of the selected (and now hi-lighted) directory.

I have navigated directory structures for 20 years now (going back to file manager days), and I am quite adept at all the +/-/click/double-click functionality - I suppose without even thinking of how to do it. So when this happens I feel like that guy in the commericial that gets his face pasted to the patio door because the glass is too clean ... screeching halt wtf just happened?!

Here is screen-shot, you can see in the header bar the "C:\" directory is being displayed, but the "Windows" directory is selected.

Indeed. I believe you. I just can't imagine what may be causing it - in fact mouse click should always show the folder in the right pane. Did it happen before installing Classic Shell and therefore you installed Classic Shell to fix it? You could open Classic Explorer settings, and try the Windows XP Simple navigation pane style or Vista style to see if it makes a difference. You will need to close the Explorer window and open it again for settings changes made to Classic Explorer.

Although the fixes for the navigation pane in Classic Shell are when using the keyboard. Also try this setting: "Auto-navigate to the select folder": Always.
