Really love classic shell, but took me a long time to figure out why the charms bars and metro kept coming up when I was in the middle of something else after I thought I had disabled them with classic shell by disabling active corners. But they kept popping up when I didnt want them to  .

Turned out the fix was turning off edge swiped in the synaptics touchpad driver.

Here is a link to an explanation and screenshots:

Could you please make this option accessible as part of classic shell under the "windows 8 settings" tab? It would be HUGE improvement to you program for the many laptop users out there.

THANKS!

Classic Shell doesn't incorporate modifying registry settings as they are undocumented and can change any time. Not everyone has Synaptics touchpads and the registry key will be manufacturer-specific. It won't work for Alps, Elan or Cirque touchpads. :)

Does that mean its not possible, or that classic shell would need to sense which brand driver each user had?

Maybe the thing to do would be to put a greyed out note on the settings > windows 8 tab telling classic shell users that they may need to turn off edge swipe in their touchpad driver settings in order to really disable active corners. Seems like that would be very easy to add to the next release and would help a lot of frustrated people using classic shell but not understanding why its not doing what its supposed to.

There are a LOT of people out there with laptops with this problem, looking for a solution and stumbling when it comes to classic shell.

it means its possible and the developers probably could, but would have to create a lot of different case scenarios to cover every driver... although that is definitely something.

there are several other apps that disable hotcorners Skip metro suite for example (which disables the hotcorners even in the metro UI, so it may also disable it for your touchpad to), the way classic shell does it is minimally invasive, so its less likely to 'break things', and by adding cases for every driver would really just complicate it...

It might be a good idea to include this in the FAQ on the website.
