Post subject:  Would like option to disable "thing" in explorer

I apologize if this is covered elsewhere, but as I don't know what the artifact to which I'm referring is called, I can't search for it.

It's the ... thing ... right below the menubar (File, Edit, View, etc.). I don't want it to be there -- I don't use it, and it's just a waste of space -- but since I don't know what it's called I don't know where to look. I've tried every checkbox that seems even remotely relevant, to no avail.

The contents of this thing in the attached screen cap (enclosed in a rounded-corner square orange box) are: Organize, Open, Include selected folder in library, Share with, Email, Burn, New Folder. Waste of screen real estate, like the idiotic ribbon bar M$ has saddled us with.

If anyone knows what this thing is called, please let me know

If anyone knows of a way to make it disappear, please tell me

If it's not possible now, please add it to the to-do list
Thanks.

It's called the Command Bar. It can't be removed easily without patching Explorer. You can either have it or have the Ribbon which you seem to have disabled using some tool.

OldNewExplorer, most likely.

Amusingly, OldNewExplorer's custom DLLs actually hold the key

IIRC one can remove the command bar by modifying those DLLs. I know you can move the details pane to the top (Longhorn amirite) by doing that, though I haven't a clue how...
