I just discovered that as long as CSM 3.9 is running I can't issue some, if not all, Vbox commands in a DOS box on the Host. Here's an example what I get: C:\Windows\system32>"c:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\VBoxManage.exe" list vms VBoxManage.exe: error: Failed to create the VirtualBox object! VBoxManage.exe: error: Code CO_E_SERVER_EXEC_FAILURE (0x80080005) - Server execution failed (extende d info not available) VBoxManage.exe: error: Most likely, the VirtualBox COM server is not running or failed to start. Exiting CSM 3.9 enables this Vbox command to run successfully. Using latest Vbox version. |

*** Update *** Seems the problem is caused by the way CSM is started. I unchecked the option to start CSM automatically. I then ran the executable directly from the CSM folder, or I can place it on the Run list, and I'm able to run the Vbox DOS commands. I do notice that CSM starts up a lot slower this way. I don't see the CSM start button for about 10 seconds or so. What's up with CSM and Vbox? |

I was unable to reproduce the issue. I tried 2 versions of vbox - the latest and the one before that. Also I tried a normal command prompt and admin. It showed me a list of VMs just fine (I only have one). Maybe you can run a process monitor and see if any specific operation fails? |

I just tried to uninstalled the previous beta version in order to install the new beta. Uninstalling produced the attached screenshot below. I clicked on 'No' and Vbox was uninstalled. CSM still remained so I uninstalled it again and all went OK. Why do I have problems with Vbox? Seems CSM and Vbox on my system have some sort of deadly embrace.

That's quite weird. It is possible both softwares share a GUID somewhere but the odds for that are very slim. It is more likely that the Windows Installer got its wires crossed somewhere. |

I recall that when I installed the latest version of Vbox it hung up on me so I canceled it after about 10 minutes. However it did work. IMO it's the Ethernet connection it sets up to allow communication between the host and guest that is causing the problem. I since uninstalled Vbox and maybe I'll try VMware in the future. |

I have seen such a message with Windows Installer when an installation of product X didn't complete and product Y's installation was started. So I guess there is no conflict as such. |
