Scenario: I am working in Word], the phone rings, I leave to answer and I am away from my brand new Windows 8 (which I truly despise!) laptop for a few minutes. I get back and the screen is black like it has shut down but it has NOT! The only way to get back on...shut down via the on/off switch. Then click on word and my document is now in RECOVERY! Only when my old laptop, Windows XP started to crash would my documents end up in recovery. Now it a given! Why do I have to keep restarting my computer just because I walked away for a few minutes?

I only found this site because my son knew how frustrated I am with Windows 8 (which I really hate!) because of the start button!

PLEASE HELP! What am I doing wrong?

It is not possible to troubleshoot from only this much information - anything could be causing it. Maybe your laptop is going to sleep and doesn't resume from sleep successfully. Or it is installing updates and restarting automatically causing all programs to close. Anyways, this forum is only for Classic Shell related issues, not general Windows. :) Try asking in Microsoft's official forums at answers.microsoft.com or any of the community websites.

I have the same problem you are talking about. Right after I have installed Classic Shell, the screen goes black if you are not using it. After one restart, I discovered that, in fact, the computer does not shutdown. If you press control+alt+del, the screen turns back to life. The thing is, it is still a bug.

I have never asked the computer to sleep or anything. All those energy save adjustments are off. I double checked, just in case.

In case it helps, I have Windows 8 64 bits on an Intel Core i5-3450
NVIDIA GeForce GT620
8 GB RAM

Thanks in advance.
