Lets say you want to put a link to an app somewhere other than the 'pinned' section of your start menu.. Here's how:


1. Create a new menu item
2. click the ... at the end of the link field
3. in the address bar type 'shell:AppsFolder'
4. select the app you want and hit 'Select File'
5. Now in the link field paste this text BEFORE the link that was generated: 'shell:AppsFolder\'
6. Press OK.

Try putting "shell:AppsFolder" in the Link setting and leave the command empty.

That opens the apps 'folder' sure but it doesn't open the specific app like calculator

Oh, I see. You want the app.
Then click on the [...] button next to the link, type shell:AppsFolder in the browser, and select the app from there. (I have not tried this myself).

Nope doesnt work; Tried it before.. it does populate; as Microsoft.WindowsCalculator_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App but clicking the link in the menu does nothing

So the problem is that the shell element you are trying to use does not have a text representation. The start menu settings are stored as text, so non-text items are not possible.
The shortcut file stores the link in binary form, and that's why it works. I think that's the only possible solution at the moment.

Use the full command in the Link or Command field. For example:

shell:AppsFolder\Microsoft.WindowsCalculator_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App
