(...I don't know if it is another Win7 "feature" or a side-effect of Classic Shell...)

Take the following steps (forget your mouse; use only the keyboard):
- Open Windows Explorer with WinButton+E keyboard shortcut.
- Navigate to any folder in the right pane.
- Check any item in the right pane; leave it highlighted.
- Press Tab about 4 times until you highlight the parent folder in the left pane.
The item selection in the right pane looks active, but it is not; the active selection is in the left pane...

So, if you marked a single file in the right pane e.g. for deletion (and you are a tired enough), it is possible to delete the entire directory from the left pane!

(...I was lucky enough to find the folder in the Recycle Bin...)

Any ideas?

[edit]
...And if you bring another window in the foreground and then revert to Windows Explorer, even the dotted frame from the left pane selection disappears!!

Sounds dangerous

Why are you tabbing around before deletes?

well this particular 'bug' is more of a visual one
the item is selected, its just not the active selection. this can be reproduced with a mouse by opening 2 windows, selecting something in 1 window, then clicking the other window..
the item in the origional window is still selected, its just not active and selected... (in windows XP i believe; it used to be a dotted line around the file, but in windows 7, its just a less-visible version of fully selected.
If your looking to change it, its likely part of the theme file... but it wont be easy... :P

KB2653385 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2653385) fixes the problem for Windows 7 SP1. Unfortunately, due to the unfortunate and poor way in which the Windows division is run now, the bug has cropped up again for Windows 8. Sigh as this did not happen in the old Microsoft.

(...OK, I am a n00b who makes Q's before Googling...)

And then I G00gle... and here is the solution!
(confirmed working under Win7-Ultimate-sp1 64-bit)
