Right click on Shell button to get small menu, and left click on settings.

Pick Customize Start Menu, and I'm sure you can take it from there.

The Help file, also in small menu, is very informative.

Please give it a try. :)

I use "Classic with two columns" style

the "Special items" tab contains this:

no default programs!

In "Custumize Start Menu" there's no default programs command either (for a custom item).

For two columns style, well, I could not find it either.
I must be blind.

Any way, there is always the manual way.
Double click custom command, drag this CustomItem to spot you like.
Double click on it, put this " control /name Microsoft.DefaultPrograms "
in command field and make label name.
Seems to work for me.

Maybe Ivo can add this to the command list for easy selection,
or I definitely need glasses. :geek:

It can be found in Control Panel -> All Control Panel Items. Also check "Don't expand" so it doesn't show up as a sub-menu.

Click on the [...] button for the link, then select Control Panel -> All Control Panel Item -> Default Programs.

Well I'm stumped.
Time to take my multivitamin.

From what I read somewhere, "default programs" link is not used very often, by most people.
If the developer does have it as an easy select, deep in there somewhere, great.
If not, I can see why. If one control panel link is added to commands,
everyone will ask for them all, and there is a lot!

Check out this link

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstrick ... ist.08.htm

It's easy to just copy and paste. I love the " control /name Microsoft.FolderOptions "

I was able to open Control Panel, then All Control Panel Items, then Default Programs on the left side (the navigation pane), then click on Select Folder.
The link it gave me is ::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}\0\::{17CD9488-1228-4B2F-88CE-4298E93E0966}
You can directly paste it.
The benefit of doing it this way over "control /name ..." is that you automatically get the correct name and icon.

Besides the Canonical names, or the GUID shell commands,
the only other way I know is make a shortcut for it, when the control panel is displayed as a menu.
When made, right click it to Pin to Start menu (Classic Shell)
Sorry I can't help much, still learning.
Though, I'm sure Mr Classic still has many bunnies in his magical hat.
I wonder if there could at least be a listing in the tutorials section, for all the shell commands for Win 7/8?
One site had almost 100 of them eg. " shell:::{17cd9488-1228-4b2f-88ce-4298e93e0966} "
that works similar to Ivo's CustomItem link.

Over and out.
