Windows 7.
The 'up button' works great in classic explorer,
but on my system it's still not visible in some 'dialogs' such as the
'change icon' browse dialog (within the 'properties' of a shortcut).
Is this normal?

Understood for third parties... :)
But how about the MS windows dialogs?
The forementioned example somehow has to be part of windows explorer,
or desktop window manager?
Can you point to which DLLs are involved in windows's built-in 'change icon' dialog?

Doesn't matter. It still involves injecting code in arbitrary applications and doing stuff to them that they don't expect. That doesn't end well in the general case.
