I often find myself in the following situation:

I open a folder and select a file.
The folder has a link in the Favorites side bar and (for some reason) I press that link.
Now - the selected file and the folder link are both highlighted, but the focus is on the link.
I press the Delete button (in the toolbar) wanting to delete the selected file, but instead the link is deleted.
(This confusing situation might be relevant to Cut and Paste as well).

I realize that this is not a bug, and using the keyboard would have the same result.
Still, could you add a setting to have the toolbar buttons working only on the main window?

Thank you.

Which Windows operating system are you using? If you are on Windows 7, then that is a bug in Explorer which is fixed by hotfix update: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2653385/. Go to this page: http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotfix.aspx?kbnum=2653385&kbln=en-us, accept the agreement, tick the hotfix (Fix389740) and enter your email address there and the CAPTCHA and click "Request hotfix". The bug fix will be sent to your email. Extract the bug fix update from the EXE and install it. Then restart Windows 7 and see if the bug happens again in Explorer.

If you are using Windows 8 RTM (which has this bug as well), upgrade to Windows 8.1 which fixes it.

Hi GauravK,

Thank you so much! I'm grateful.
I've installed the hotfix and now if the folder link is highlighted, the selected file is shaded.

Still, I'd appreciate an option to disable the toolbar buttons if the focus is on the Favorites side bar.

No that wouldn't be correct. The toolbar supports all features for the left pane too. Disabling it would be like removing a feature. The hotfix is the correct solution. :)

Thanks again.

You seem to be very knowledgeable. May I request your help regarding an unrelated issue? I've searched a lot and couldn't find a solution.
I'd really appreciate that.
