I hope I'm not speaking heresy here, but has anyone thought about running Classic Start Menu (and Classic Explorer) on Server Core for 2012? Would it be possible? I've tried, but no luck so far - I'm guessing there are dependencies on Explorer that are keeping things from working.
Just a daft idea by someone who loathes the Win8/2012 interface...

Server Core is a cmd-line only UI minimal installation option, part of Windows Server where Explorer.exe doesn't load.

OK, thanks for the info. I'm trying to find a way to get some sort of (non-Microsoft) desktop running on Server Core, since Core is stripped of the normal Explorer/Desktop Window Manager mess. I'll keep looking.
