I have to do a clean install of Win7 on my PC.

Is there any way of saving the START menu pinned list of all shortcuts + folders (with contents) ?
I know the Targets may not be valid but at least I can repair paths.
I guess I am looking for a folder tree -- document ?

The only way I can think of is to copy captions + targets to a text reader. (How I hate clean installs)
It has taken me about 12 months to tweak Classic Start to my perfection.

Thank you :)

Yes definitely. Depending on your settings for "Pinned Programs folder", pinned items are stored at C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu or at C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\ClassicShell\Pinned. You can also back up all the shortcuts inside the two Start Menu folders: the first one mentioned earlier and the All Users Start Menu at C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu.

To save Classic Start Menu custom items which you may have added from the Customize Start Menu tab in settings, backup your settings to an XML file using the Backup button in settings.

Use the search box in the Start Menu Settings dialog to find the Pinned Programs setting.

Settings Dialog
Searched:= pinned .... nothing found
Searched:= pinned programs .... nothing found
Searched:= pinned programs folder.... nothing found
Searched;= folder ... found boolean settings, but no editbox/browse to enter a folder-path in.

Then "Help" link on Settings Dialog
- I have been through the entire "Help" file. Nothing found.
Maybe a Registry hack ?
- I did find how to stop users modifying the Start menu, but nothing about customising pinned folder location

I presume then that the "Pinned section" of "Classic Start" cannot be contained in a custom folder ?

Looks like the default folders are all that is available ...
C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu
C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\ClassicShell\Pinned

Where exactly are you searching? You must search inside the Classic Start Menu settings dialog. Show me with a screenshot.

If you found the folders where the shortcuts are pinned, were you not able to backup them? What seems to be the problem? :)

My sincere apologies
I was stupidly searching in Classic Explorer not Classic Start
- what happens when I start at 4am, it is now 5pm (our time) -- and stressing out over my Remove third party control on Classic Toolbar

Found on "Main Menu" tab on "Classic Start"
(•) Use Pinned folder
C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu
C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\ClassicShell\Pinned
---
(•) Use Start Menu folder
C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu.

Have I "got it" now ? ;)

Thank you GauravK for your patience,
