I thought Classic Explorer fixed folder scrolling, but when I open a subfolder and then close it the window automatically scrolls down to the bottom of the page of subfolders, as per Windows usual behaviour. How can I fix this? (My operating system is Windows 7 Professional with SP1 and all updates installed).

Advice would be appreciated.

Thanks and regards,
Roy

Are you talking about the navigation pane (the left side) or the file pane (the right side)?

Ivo, I think the best way to explain my problem is with a screenshot.

If I open any folder except the bottom one and then close that folder I have no problem, and can open and close subsequent folders without the window automatically scrolling to the bottom of the folder list. However, once I have opened and closed the bottom folder the window stays scrolled to the bottom of the window. I tried scrolling back up but then whatever folder I choose to open and close the window scrolls back to the bottom of the list. This is very frustrating, because then to open subsequent folders I have to scroll down one folder at a time.

How do I prevent this automatic folder scrolling?

Advice would be appreciated.

Thanks and regards,
Roy

This is not something that Classic Shell modifies. It only fixes a specific scrolling bug in the navigation pane (the left side) when a folder is first selected and then expanded.

This is an annoyance that got introduced in Windows Vista. In XP, if you went Back/Forward, it would remember its scroll position in the right pane. But if you went Up, it would return you to the top/left most scroll position. In Vista and later, it always remembers its scroll position irrespective of whether you go Up or Back. So if you opened the bottom most folder, going back or up will take you to that last scroll position. Home/End keys are your best friends.
