I am unable to reproduce this or the other graphical issues on 64-bit Windows 8.1 with Nvidia card, and on a 32-bit Vbox. I tried both 3.6.8 and 3.9.0.

What videcard do you have? Might be a driver issue.

I try update video driver, delete driver, bootup safe mode - problem stays.

Can really be a problem in the Russian language Windows 8.1? For example here glitter3 said that he installed the language pack.

Windows 8.1 is quite new, I have not had time to experiment. It used to be that holding down Shift would allow a safe boot but it doesn't work anymore.

hmm didnt know they took away the shift method, havnt used 8.1 at all :P, but yea i guess that makes sense, usually once people find a way of doing something they tend to forget/ignore other ways.. especially if those ways are more complicated :P

Another way to boot into Safe Mode is via Shift+Restart and then choosing Windows Startup Settings in that new Windows 8 pre-logon environment.

Yes, I was able to reproduce it. It was a reentrance issue that for some reason only happens on Win 8.1
