Classic Shell does not overwrite XML or DirectUI data.
Ok, I thought it does when modifying default properties such as colorization of the taskbar, opacity / transparency and spacing between icons.

Doing anything like this is a guaranteed way to get an endless list of compatibility bugs. Unlike Microsoft I don't have a compatibility lab with access to thousands of applications to play with.
How does Bbleanskin titlebar work then and why does it function in "Open" and "Save as" boxes?
http://bb4win.sourceforge.net/index.html. It just blanks explorer dwm titlebar and puts a proprietary bar of a given height on top of it which is additionally packed with a set of caption buttons and "Label" box. On my end, it works flawlessly and has no compatibility issues. Is that bar any different from all the other bars with added functionality that are being developed for windows?
By the way is it theoretically possible to resize icons in Details View?
