Hi

I am thinking of updating to 8.1 and have not done so because I read about some people having problems.

I am still running Classic Shell 3.6.6: Should I update Classic Shell first, before I update to 8.1, or update it after I have 8.1 installed?

I am a bit nervous about both updates because my laptop in running well at the moment and I don't really want to spend time trying to sort any problems out.

Thanks

Yes update to the latest version of Classic Shell before updating to Windows 8.1. The Classic Shell update should be painless - your settings will be migrated automatically but you can still manually backup all the settings using the Backup button in the settings dialog. If for some reason the settings are not migrated, you can import them from the XML.

If you upgrade from Windows 8 RTM to Windows 8.1 using the Store, Update 1 will be automatically installed now.
