Windows provides users with a keyboard shortcut to access the start menu -- left click on the desktop/wallpaper and press F3. When I do this the native start menu comes up instead of classic shell's start menu. Is there a way to make F3 bring up classic shell's start menu?

I don't see F3 doing anything in Windows 10. What version do you have?

I'm using version 1511. Use your mouse to left click anywhere on the desktop then press F3. In previous versions of Windows this would bring up the search box. In Windows 10 it brings up the start menu since search has been merged into it.

You can use a simple AutoHotkey script to override it.

Thanks for the script! It would be nice if classic shell could natively catch the Desktop+F3 keyboard shortcut and Windows Key+S so that no extra software was necessary.

No replacing F3 is not a good idea because F3 opens different things on Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 and users prefer different things. For example, on Windows 8.1, the built-in Windows search is the only one that can search network files, Classic Start Menu cannot so both are required. Similarly, on Windows 10, some users prefer Cortana whose functions Classic Start Menu cannot entirely replace.
