heyas guys!

just a little annoying thing...

i'm using classic shell in an xp-style configuration, on win7 64bit pro whatever.

i have my programs all sorted into categories on the start menu. for example, 'dropbox' goes under 'programs, tools, tools'. but whenever dropbox (or other programs) update, i open my start menu to find they've stuck their folder directly under 'programs.' then i have to drag it from there into where it goes and tell it 'yes, doofus, overwrite the stuff that is the same thing that is already there, because that's where it belongs.'

i don't remember XP behaving like this. is this a win7 'feature'? i do know that adobe acrobat used to stick it's icon directly under 'programs' all the time, and i kept deleting it. but i don't remember program updates not knowing to stick their updated icons where they used to be.


do you know what i mean? and can i fix it, or is it stuck doing that? thanks a bunch!

All versions of Windows behave like this since Windows 95. Since it is the installer that creates the shortcut, most installers put shortcuts where the developer has intended them to go. As a workaround, you can open the Properties of the folder or the shortcut and from the General tab, set the "Hidden" attribute and click OK. Then it will still get created but it will be hidden from the Start menu.
