I wasn't happy to see my machine auto rebooted - losing my work while I slept

But I realized this was the Windows 10 Anniversary update.

So it finally comes back, and I ask myself ? Where is my ClassicShell?

So I remember a notification yesterday a new CS is available.

I go to install it, nothing but warnings this may damage your PC, I over ride it and it just flashes a window and closes.

So I head to the forums here, and first thing I see is - remove the old classic shell before upgrading.

As SOON as I removed the old classic shell, N360.exe blew a gasket - machine was locked.

I went to reboot? and now all I have is a black screen.

get this - bottom left, NOT top left, I have a 'spade' symbol with a fast blinking cursor to the right of it.

I've never seen that before - but it's not a prompt, you can't type.

All I can do is CTRL-ALT-DELETE - pressing F8 for a 'safe mode' does not work.

I dare say- Somewhere between this Anniversary update and the uninstall of my Classic Shell?

I'm looking at a complete rebuild - everything lost.

Very sad day here indeed.

Anyone else having issues with classic shell and Anniversary?

I can't believe MS EVER took away that nice standard Start Menu.

TOTAL BONUS - I only ever 'bought' Windows 8.1, and although I did upgrade using the free upgrade?

I am anticipating when I re-install 8.1, I won't get that 10 upgrade since it ended 3 days ago.

Thoughts anyone?

Somehow I gather this is intended humor.

Unfortunately I'm not laughing.

Oh, I see you are NOT kidding

https://twitter.com/CultOfRazer

Yes, that is EXACTLY what I see

The Spade character bottom left with a blinking cursor

Odd, nowhere through Google could I find that, and here this VERY problem is at Cult of Razor Twitter account.

Sad indeed.

Perhaps ClassicShell will put up a repair MBR solution, to which I'm finding on my own atm.

Thanks for pointing this out.

I thought you were kidding.

Nope - this makes perfect sense, it looks very much like a corrupted MBR.

Why anyone would do such a thing though, is criminal.

Yes unfortunately, the installer was compromised and replaced with another one infected with malware. You can download the clean installer from http://www.classicshell.net/downloads/latest which is hosted on MediaFire. Follow this post to stay updated on what you can do to clean/repair your MBR: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=6434 Again I am sorry your PC got infected.
